Fantasy Matchmaking Post-UFC 250
The conclusion of UFC marks yet another successful card during the pandemic-era. Amanda Nunes was the headliner, becoming the first champion to successfully defend two belts; however, the card served as a showcase for the bantamweight division, with the next title challenger being lined up, a former champion returning to form and a budding prospect scoring yet another emphatic knockout. All of these winners and losers will need to get back to the drawing board and find their next opponent, and for some, their next career.
Amanda Nunes has proven once again that she is just far better than any woman above pounds. The featherweight division is completely void of challengers so for her next fight she must go back to bantamweight to defend that belt.
December couldn’t have started any better for the UFC. Exciting knockouts, crazy submissions and great fights at UFC DC. Who does what next?
In , the UFC decided to stop other MMA outlets from telling the world how fighters should be ranked, and instead decided to release their own official list for every weight class. Fans from all over the world now regularly flock to the official UFC rankings , which are updated about 36 hours after every card. However, with official rankings being available, fans are quick to point out discrepancies between who the UFC books in high profile fights and what the rankings tell us.
For example, Nick Diaz and Chael Sonnen and Anthony Pettis have all been booked for title fights in divisions where they are not the No. It is obvious that the UFC will continue their history of booking what they think is best for both fans and the organization, regardless of what the rankings denote. We are not here to say that the UFC is wrong for this decision.
However, here is a look at the pros and cons of ignoring official rankings when matchmaking. Fight fans are incredibly vocal when it comes to bookings. They know what they want to see and will not hesitate for one moment to tell you about it. Sometimes, fans want fights that don’t exactly match up with the current divisional rankings. If White had ignored the rankings, JDS vs. Hunt would have provided fans with a title fight between the best heavyweight boxer in MMA and a man who was once legitimately crowned the best heavyweight kickboxer on the planet.
Ultimately, Frank Mir ended up getting the spot.

Ahead of last Friday’s Bellator event, Ryan Bader declared himself the best light heavyweight fighter in the world. Bellator president Scott Coker backed up the statement. Then, Bader was dominated and knocked out in the second round of his fight with Vadim Nemkov in the Bellator main event. Nemkov now may lay claim to the status of top pound fighter in the world, or maybe that distinction will belong to the winner of the UFC bout between Dominick Reyes and Jan Blachowicz for the UFC title Jones vacated.
Reyes did, in the eyes of many, deserve the win over Jones in their UFC clash earlier this year — even if the official judges disagreed.

The news of his departure came as a shock to fans and fighters alike. Honestly; I wasn’t too bothered, I’m not going to lie to you. The only real emotion that was evoked when I heard that the little fella was hanging up his lanyard, was ‘Bloody hell, I’d love that job’.

By, Donny Rockett drockett What an event it was. The fight card had everything from great performances, to controversy, to crazy finishes. C on a twelve fight win streak to face the always tough Trevor Smith. Muradov really developed his skills and paid his dues on the regional scene. In his debut he came in on short notice against a very tough Alessio Di Chirico and though he did slow down, he pulled off the unanimous decision victory.
Trevor Smith entered this contest having not been real active over the last several years and with all due respect, this seemed to be a step back in competition for Muradov. Muradov proved this to be the case and treated Smith accordingly. Smith was battered to the body and head for almost the full 15 minutes and in the final seconds Muradov closed the show with a huge shot putting Smith out cold. This garnered Muradov his first Performance of the Night bonus and it was a tremendous performance.
I look forward to it in the first quarter of and I think this fight could be a real banger. Unfortunately, Souza was forced to withdraw and Mallory Martin got the short notice call to the big show and the ultimate opportunity. Mallory Martin is an extremely tough girl but the Invicta veteran lacks experience and came into this bout as a sizable underdog. Jandiroba proved why and was a bit too much too soon for Martin and ultimately used her BJJ to get the 2nd round submission.

I have no desire to fight this kid whatsoever at this time in his career, and right now especially in my career. I was looking forward to bigger and better fish to really cement my run back at the title. But you know, it what it is. I have to do what the bosses say. They say this fight makes sense, in some odd universe. I guess because he is ranked 10 or I fought a guy who was undefeated, and he at least had a finish; his victories were at least dominant and one-sided.
And now I am fighting a guy who had two split decision wins, and he beat Terrion Ware. Is this bizarro land? Sterling is not the only one who is disinterested in the matchup.
